THE SAGE GROUP LLC Announces that Mary L. Yost, President, will Lecture on Socioeconomics of Amputation at the Save A Leg Save A Life Foundation Annual National Conference
ATLANTA, April 8, 2013 (BUSINESS WIRE)—THE SAGE GROUP announced today that Mary L. Yost will be presenting at the Save A Leg Save A Life (SALSAL) National Conference held May 9-11, 2013 at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club, Lake Buena Vista, Florida. At the Plenary Sessions on May 9, Ms. Yost lectures on “The Socioeconomic Impact of Lower Extremity Amputation”.
On May 10 Ms. Yost will participate in the Emerging Therapies Panel Lunch Session, The Ischemic Limb moderated by Dr. Yazan Khatib. She will speak on “Treatment of the Ischemic Limb in an Era of Scarce Healthcare Resources.”
According to Ms. Yost, “Amputation is costly for the hospital, the economy and the patient. Major amputation is associated with high operative mortality, morbidity and frequent revisions all of which add significantly to the economic burden.”
“Measured by ability to walk, live independently, the need for frequent hospital readmissions and many other variables, patient outcomes are very poor. Yet amputation is frequently the first and only interventional treatment for critical limb ischemia (CLI). Furthermore, in this country the probability of major amputation depends on who you are and where you live, the Amputation Lottery,” she explained.
